The feature race of the week the Bangalore St Leger, saw a small field of runners with Multi classic winner Icebreaker fancied to win easily as the odds on choice with bookies quoting 25/100 for it's win. It was a surprise to see 'One' contesting for the cup, as he is hardly a classic type, others in the fray were genuine class I horses Star Presentation and Spark Of Gold and Conceptual who is bred to stay and had reached the highest class after a slew of victories.
However in the end 'One' perhaps had the most telling effect on the race and was instrumental in the final outcome, though the horse itself finished last. One set such a fast clip, the pace almost killed any chances for a horse susceptible over the extended distance of 2800 Meters. Before the horses hit the home front, Icebreaker had precious little left in it's tank.
Conceptual went further and further away making a mockery of opposition and romped home a winner with something still left in the tank. The victory presented another classic winner to Brar's one of the oldest racing families in India whose farm has consistently produced stayers.
